Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has reiterated his resolve to complete the issue of constitutional amendments and said that if the amendments are done before October 25, the issue will be resolved peacefully.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was in an informal chat with journalists at the Islamabad Supreme Court and was asked by a reporter if he was in favor of a military trial against Imran Khan, to which he replied: “Let’s see, absolutely not. Whatever the evidence is, we still have the power to pardon the president.”
He said the Pakistan People’s Party was against the death penalty.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was asked if the deadline for the proposed constitutional amendment was October 25. He said the matter could be resolved peacefully if changes were made before October 25.
He said he would not let the constitutional court matter lie, he would end it. This was a demand in 2006 and part of our manifesto.
The PPP leader said why the timing of the judiciary’s action was not discussed, why the ban was issued on certain seats, why the timing of the judiciary’s action was not discussed when the parliament was convened on September 14. Why was the timing of the judge’s 4-page statement on a working day not questioned?
He said that the term of office of the president of the Constitutional Court is three years, and although the military did not support the establishment of the court, the reason for the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court was the Supreme Court’s own past.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the riots in Karachi have been going on since 2011, and sometimes it turns into water committees, and water committees also go to places where there is no water.
He said that the judiciary used the Karachi riots as an excuse to affect our local government system.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said it was a game of who would become the Army Chief and who would not. The May 9 incident was the closest thing to a coup.
He said that without a constitutional amendment, the situation might not be brought under control and the path to martial law was blocked by the 18th Amendment.
